Overview

Navelim Wetlands situated in Bicholim taluka has been given the status of an important bird and biodiversity area (IBA). It is spread over an area of 82 ha, most of which is shallowly inundated for about seven months of the year. About 45 ha of this wetland is recovered for growing paddy.

  • The area has become known for being a haven for birds
  • Migratory birds can be seen here
  • Thousands of common teals, ibis and other species can be seen in the winter
