Overview

Curdi was a living village till 1983. Since then, it is a submerged ghost village . It stays submerged in the waters of Salaulim Dam for 11 months in the year. Just before the monsoons hit Goa in early June, the water levels go down and the village resurfaces for a only a few weeks. Just like the Rivona Caves, the village also had its share of rock-cut caves. It is not easy to locate them now, but they do exist somewhere in the ecosystem of the dam project.

Highlights

Ideally, you should visit Curdi in May

Each year the water levels react differently, so one year you might be able to see the entire village, whereas in the next year it might be a little under the water still

Visit the ruins of the ancient Shree Ganesh Temple or view the relics of Someshwar Temple

Go look for the elusive rock-cut caves

The area is rich is biodiversity, so expect all kinds of animals and reptiles

Avoid travelling there during the night

Return before sunset
